Tuula Hällström
Piano
Pianist Tuula Hällström became fascinated with making music together already at the start of her musical journey. She played a lot of chamber music during her studies at the West Helsinki Music Institute, and her cooperation with violinist Anna Malmivirta (née Kahanpää) was awarded with first prize at the Juvenalia chamber music competition in 1995. Hällström started focusing on working with singers during her years of soloist studies at the Sibelius Academy, and after winning the only Lied pianist competition in Finland in 1999, she has cooperated with many singers, giving concerts as well as participating in singing competitions, opera productions and master classes.
Since 2005, Hällström has been a teacher at the department of vocal music at the Sibelius Academy, opening up the language of musical dialogue for young singers. Among Hällström’s own primary sources of inspiration and guidance are Collin Hansen and Erik T. Tawaststjerna, under whose supervision she graduated with distinction from the Sibelius Academy. Hällström has given concerts at most prominent music festivals in Finland. Other countries she has visited include Sweden, Japan, Italy, Estonia, Poland, UK, Hungary, USA, and Russia.
Hällström is producing the festival ”Miksi laulan?” (”Why do I sing?”) for young singers, which was held for the first time in Helsinki in 2022.
