Actor and director Lasse Hjelt graduated from the Swedish Theatre School in Helsinki in 1969. Before that, he had appeared as an amateur actor, performing both in Finnish and Swedish in his bilingual home town.
As a professional actor, his first engagements were at the Åbo Svenska Teater (Swedish), LillaTeatern (Helsinki), WasaTeater (Swedish), Vaasa City Theatre (Finnish), Skolteatern (later UngaTeatern, ”the Young Theatre”), Norrbottensteatern (Sweden), Turku City Theatre, and Theatre Peukalopotti in Vaasa.
