Iirisilona Segerstam
Soprano
Rising, young soprano Iirisilona Segerstam was the winner of the 2023 national Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition and thereafter has performed at the Organ Night and Aria Festival, Why do I sing? -festival, PuKama-chamber’s classical concert series and with the Joensuu City Orchestra as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. Iirisilona Segerstam is the People’s Cultural Fund (SKR) Päivi and Paavo Lipponen Fund’s 2024 Artist of The Year.
Segerstam is completing her singing studies at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Sibelius Academy under teachers Reetta Haavisto and Outi Kähkönen. Before this, she completed her classical voice studies at the Helsinki Conservatory of Music in 2021. Segerstam has studied Lied music under Heikki Pellinen during her Conservatory years in 2019–2021, and been in masterclasses taught by Tuula Hällström, Juho Alakärppä and Pia Värri. Segerstam participated in the Helsinki Lied Competition in 2021.
Earlier this year Segerstam sang two role debuts: Arminda in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera (Helsinki Conservatory of Music) and Communications Consultant / Chief General Manager in Joonas Pohjonen’s new, modern chamber opera Team. Previous roles at the Helsinki Conservatory of Music are Mrs. Sylviane in Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow and 1st Lady (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) in the production Capricious Night – scenes from Mozart’s operas. Segerstam sang in the Young Nordic Opera Choir in 2023.
