Erica Nygård
Flute
Erica Nygård studied flute first at the Tampere Conservatory and then at the Sibelius Academy, where she graduated with honors in the spring of 2008. Nygård completed her studies in 2005 in Hague. In addition to her orchestral work, Nygård has studied to be a church musician in Novia, Pietarsaari with Dan Lönnqvist.
Nygård has played in the Vaasa City Orchestra since 2003 and has performed as principal flute in both the Helsinki and Turku City Orchestras. Since 2010, she has been the principal flute of the Vaasa City Orchestra. Nygård often performs as a chamber musician and soloist and has performed in several European countries in addition to Finland. She is a founding member of Ensemble Transparent and, together with Niels Burgmann, forms the flute organ duo. Nygård has also made several radio and TV recordings. In 2011 she received a one-year work grant from the Svenska Kulturfonden and in 2018 the Maalahti Municipality Culture Award.
