Andrej Bielow was born in 1981 in Ukraine and received his first violin lessons at the age of five. In 1993 he attended the special music boarding school in Kiev. Having recognized his talent, Prof. Michael Kuzniezow put up the eleven-year-old boy and took care of his further violin education. Already at an early age Andrej started to perform in carefully selected concerts in Europe and USA.
At the age of 15 Andrej settled in Germany to study with Prof. Krzysztof Wegrzyn at the University of Music and Drama in Hannover. Further musical education followed with Gerard Poulet at the Conservatoire Nationale Superieure in Paris, Herman Krebbers, Silvia Marcovici and Ida Haendel.
Andrej Bielow has won prizes in international competitions such as the Long-Thibaut in Paris (2002), ARD Munich (1999) and the Hannover Violin Competition dedicated to Joseph Joachim (2000). He has been awarded scholarships from institutions such as the Ukrainian Culture Foundation, Theodor Lessing Foundation, Foundation Kulturregion Hannover, Gerd-Bucerius-ZEIT-Foundation, Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and Förderpreis of the Lower Saxony.
As a soloist he has collaborated with orchestras like the New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestra National de Radio France, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra and Münchner Kammerorchester, under conductors such as Kurt Masur, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Gianandrea Noseda, Miguel Gomez-Martinez, Christian Arming, Agnieszka Duzcmal, Junichi Hirokami and Christoph Poppen.
Andrej Bielow loves chamber music and feels attached to musicians who share his passion. He has played at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Niedersächsische Musiktage, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and many others. At the Kronberg Academy he performed with Gidon Kremer, Juri Bashmet and the Beaux Arts Trio. Since 2005 he has led the Szymanowski Quartet, teached at the University of Music and Drama in Hannover, and given masterclasses in Europe, Asia and USA.
In 2005 he founded together with jazz-guitarist Johan Weiß the MBF (Musik braucht Freunde) Foundation, which provides financial support for needy students at the University of Music and Drama Hannover.
Andrej plays Guarneri Joseph Filius violin from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
